This diaper “cake” is made with diapers, a baby bottle, a baby bib, hooded towels, a baby onesie, a stuffed animal, rubber bands, and ribbon.
I come from an area where there are a lot of babies. Out of my friends and neighbors, there are always a few who are pregnant and the best part about that for me is that I get to buy them gifts. As I do not plan to have more babies, sometimes I feel a little bad because I really like buying baby clothes. Baby girl clothes are some of my favorite to buy and I am constantly on the lookout for great baby products and clothes because I know eventually I will know someone who will be able to use the items.
Most recently I had a friend come in from out of town and I finally got to spoil her with baby items since she is having her first baby. Looking back to when I had my first baby, I was so blessed by so many people who were willing to fill the baby closet with clothes and fill the baby’s drawers with diapers, creams, wipes, and other essential baby items. We were also given a car seat, stroller, baby swing, and many other items that make having a baby in the home more comfortable.
My favorite gifts to make are little diaper cakes. I have never made an actual diaper cake that looks like a cake but I am always on the lookout for ways to make giving diapers and other essentials more unique. This time I grabbed some diapers, bottles, baby bibs, hooded towels, and baby clothes from my local Target and started on my baby diaper cake motorcycle.
First I took a rubber band, half the diapers that came in the bag (I used 24 diapers per wheel), and made them into a wheel. I took about 12 diapers and put a rubber band around them and then added in 12 more diapers to make a circle with all of the diapers facing the same way. I then made one more wheel using 24 more diapers. You could make a bigger wheel with more diapers or a wheel with fewer diapers just depending on how many diapers you want to use. Once the wheels were made, I added ribbon around the wheels to cover up the rubber bands.
Next I took a hooded towel (you could also use small swaddling blankets), folded it so it was slim and lengthwise and connected the two wheels with it. I tucked the ends into one of the middle of the wheels so you could not see the ends of the towel. I took another towel (or blanket) and put it into the middle of the front wheel so that equal lengths of towel were showing on both sides. I used a rubber band and banded the top of the towel over the top of the wheel to make handle bars. I also placed a baby bottle between the diaper wheel and the rubber band to create a headlight.
Finally I used one of the bibs to create a seat. I hooked it onto the middle of the front wheel and then placed a stuffed animal on top of it. With the baby onesie, I put it onto the stuffed animal to add on one more baby item onto this “cake.”
With all of my extra items that came in the packaging, I placed them into a gift bag and gave it to them as well.
What sort of diaper “cakes” have you made?
