This left or right idea was inspired by the TSA’s decision to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to build an app that would allow TSA workers to randomly assign people lines, as to not discriminate. This app randomly chooses left or right at random for you so you don’t have to.
Something kind of silly happened with the TSA and building a left or right app and my husband thought, I could do that for a lot less than it took them to build it. So he did.
One thing about my husband is that he is actually really good at what he does. Not that it’s a surprise. I mean, look at that nerdy smile. I always like to say he is more Asian than I am with the facts that he cannot open his eyes more than a squint for photos, he loves Asian food way more than I do, and his accent for a Chinese person is a million times closer than mine … and I’m Asian. And you know what some nerds and Asians are really good at? Computers and programming, so it just fits. Another great thing about this guy is that he has a million ideas and follows through with some of them and when he follows through, he does an excellent job. This guy can also really get bugged about how others program and do things and he doesn’t hesitate to redo their work. The final thing that you should know about him is that when he was younger, he was a romantic. He loves movies and his ideas for dates were straight out of chick flicks, I’m pretty sure. However, one girl completely ruined him and he is no longer a romantic and he doubts himself constantly so when he actually takes me on a date, I can almost hear the angels singing.
Most of the time I have to think of date ideas or assure him that his date was just fine but because of the TSA and his personality, he basically planned this date all by himself. We got in the car, pulled up this Left or Right Randomizer, and allowed us to take us where it would. Because this randomizer took us where it chose, we saw homes and places we had never seen before. As we were seeing where it would take us, we stopped at a few random places on the way because why not? Why not see that beautiful park that I have never seen before? Why not grab ice cream at the ma and pop shop that I had only ever seen once before? And when it turned us into a restaurant, we had to try it.
How to use the Left or Right Randomizer for a date:
The fun thing about this is that you could use it with a night out with friends, a night out with the significant other, or a night at as a family.
Pile everyone in to the car (and buckle up, of course). Go to left-or-right.org and start driving. Once you hit an intersection, turn the direction that the app website is directing you to go.
If you don’t want to turn at every intersection, have one person decide how many intersections you will go until you turn right or left again.
You could also decide in advance how many turns you will make before you stop and get out.
This is a simple randomizer that could potentially take you places you didn’t know existed or you could end up at a place you go to all the time.
To play along with us, make sure you hashtag and tag us with #leftorright @unitedmomsnetwork so we can see where you ended up or to see how your date night is going!
