I admit. I’m not a breakfast person. I eat it but can’t stand most breakfast foods unless I cook them myself (I’m not sure how that helps) and every time we go out to Kneaders for breakfast, everyone else gets the unlimited French Toast while I sit and gnaw on my breakfast sandwich. And as soon as I get home, I down a bowl of pasta to make sure the breakfast portion of my sandwich goes down and stays down.
For Christmas this year, my husband’s boss gave everyone a Kneaders gift basket with some yummy foods including Kneaders Chunky Cinnamon Bread and some cinnamon syrup (another non-favorite of mine). As our neighborhood breakfast was coming up a couple days later, I saved the ingredients, saved the recipe card for Kneader’s Overnight French Toast, and made it the morning of the breakfast.
Little did I know it was actually going to taste really good. Then again, maybe it’s because I made it.
It was a potluck breakfast so I put my dish at the end of the casseroles in hopes that by the time the 20-40 people in front of me got through the line, they’d take all of the first casseroles and not eat any of my Overnight French Toast. Boy was I wrong. By the time I made it through the line (and I was at the beginning!), the Overnight French Toast was almost gone! So I was selfish and took a huge chunk of it, went back to my seat, ate it, and then wandered back over to the potluck table to see if I could get more. To my dismay and not surprise, it was all gone.
Want to know why though? It is perfect. It is soaked overnight so it’s perfect all the way through, it has a nice cinnamon flavor, and the bread is heaven. I would recommend some whipped cream and strawberries on top. If you like syrup, add some caramel syrup.
