Growing up, I never really liked meat. I know. It was a sad time in my life. But now I love meat, especially fresh meat.
One thing I am big on is food storage. We have a large room in our basement with extra food like pastas, canned foods, and foods that the kids love like fruit snacks, granola bars, and cereal. Not only is it great in the case of an emergency, it’s also great for those weeks we don’t have extra cash for food or the weeks I just don’t feel like going to the grocery store.
Back in our days of being super poor (we barely made $14,000 a year before taxes), we could barely afford a food storage. It was literally a diaper box in our children’s bedroom with a couple of boxes of cereal, some bags of dried pasta, pasta sauce, rice, natural fruit leathers, and a few cans of random fruits and beans. It wasn’t much but it helped us get through a few weeks where we just didn’t have much else to eat and couldn’t go to the grocery store. Then if we had a little extra cash, we’d restock our storage and buy a little extra food for the month as well.
These days I look back on those times and am so grateful for the lessons it has taught me about meal planning, budgeting, and food storage. We have decent jobs and live a nice middle-class life where we can afford $250/month for food and if we spend a little extra, it’s okay. It has allowed us to build up our food storage and has allowed us to have extra meat in our freezer as well.
Zaycon Fresh is a company that is allowing us to buy fresh meat in bulk. They have boneless, skinless chicken breasts, whole chickens, Angus ribeye steaks, hickory smoked bacon, boneless, skinless chicken thighs, 93/7 super lean ground beef, Wild Alaskan sockeye salmon fillets, boneless applewood smoked ham, Kansas City strip steaks, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin fillets, pork loin extra meaty back ribs, and 80/20 ground beef.
You order what you’d like and then at a location near you, they will have your meat available for you to pick up. It comes in a large truck. You pull up your car, unlock your doors, and they will load it for you. Lock your doors (if you’re that kind of person), put your car in drive, and you can head home. So easy. So quick. And you never even have to get out of your car. If you want to learn more, visit Zaycon here.
Anyway, I made this meal one night when I really just needed some meat. I wanted a thick slab of meat that I could enjoy.
